Mardi Gras in Louisiana

If you are looking for a nice Mardi Gras experience without the big city and overcrowding found in New Orleans, find a smaller town.

All small towns in Southwest Louisiana (also called SWLA) have Mardi Gras events and parades.  This weekend I was in Lake Charles for the celebrations.

I got to see the Krewe of Omega parade on Saturday and the Krewe of Barkus (aka the dog) parade AND the Gumbo cookoff in the Civic Center....I had as many bowls as I could taste.  After the Saturday parades I enjoyed some authentic Zydeco music at the open air pavilion adjacent to the Lake Charles Civic Center.
